Candida tropicalis as a Promising Oleaginous Yeast for Olive Mill Wastewater Bioconversion

چکیده

Olive mill wastewater (OMW), which is generated during olive oil production, has detrimental effects on the environment due to its high organic load and phenolic compounds content. OMW difficult biodegrade, but represents a valuable resource of nutrients for microbial growth. In this study, yeast strains were screened their growth usually found in responsible antimicrobial effects. Candida tropicalis ATCC 750 demonstrated an extraordinary capacity grow phenolics was chosen further experiments with OMW-based medium. The nitrogen supplementation, pH, stirring rate cellular growth, OMW-components consumption, added-value production studied batch cultures Erlenmeyer flasks bioreactor. able reduce 68% (chemical oxygen demand) 39% total phenols optimized conditions bioreactor experiments, producing lipase (203 U·L?1) protease (1105 U·L?1). Moreover, intracellular lipids accumulated, most significantly under nitrogen-limited conditions, common type wastewater. potential C. detoxify produce from it makes process alternative approach other conventional processes treatment.

Selection of Promising Bacterial Strains as Potential Tools for the Bioremediation of Olive Mill Wastewater

The main objective of this paper was the selection of promising bacterial strains to be used as potential tools to remove phenols in olive mill wastewater (OMW) or in other food wastes. Therefore, 12 OMW samples were analyzed and 119 isolates were collected. After a preliminary screening on a medium containing vanillic and cinnamic acids, three isolates were selected to evaluate their viability...

Production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste by Rhizopus oryzae and Candida tropicalis

The purpose of this study was to investigate the production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste by microbial fermentation of Rhizopus oryzae and Candida tropicalis. Olive mill waste fermentations were performed in shake and bioreactor cultures. Production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste was followed by Gas Chromatography-Mass spectrometry, Gas chromatography- olfactometry and Sp...

Evaluation of olive oil mill wastewater toxicity on the mitochondrial bioenergetics after treatment with Candida oleophila.

In a previous work the ability of Candida oleophila to use phenolic compounds as sole carbon and energy source at high concentrations without an additional carbon source was reported. C. oleophila grown in bioreactor batch cultures in a diluted and sterilized olive oil mill wastewater (OMW) caused a significant decrease in the total tannins content but no significant alteration was observed in ...

Antimicrobial Activity of Olive Mill Waters (Alpechin) and Biotransformed Mill Wastewater Waste- Olive Oil

Olive oil extraction produces a great volume of residue. These olive mill wastes are known as alpechin. This wastewater is a powerful pollutant, resistant to degradation and presents a severe environmental problem related to its high organic content made up largely of simple phenolic compounds, that have been described as being both antimicrobial and phytotoxic. This paper reviews briefly the a...
